Setting Up for Live VJ Success
Resolume Arena is the industry benchmark for stage visuals, projection mapping, and nightclub LED displays. To execute a flawless live show, your project file and media workflow must be structured methodically.
1. The DXV3 Codec: Why It Is Crucial
Never run standard H.264 or MP4 video files inside Resolume during a live gig. Standard compressed formats require heavy CPU decompression that causes stuttering when mixing multiple layers. Always convert your clips to Resolume's proprietary DXV3 codec. DXV offloads decompression directly to your GPU, allowing dozens of simultaneous 4K streams with zero frame drop.
2. Structuring Your Layer Hierarchy
A reliable layer configuration follows this template:
- Layer 1 (Bottom): Ambient color washes, deep textures, and slow seamless loops.
- Layer 2 (Middle): Rhythmic motion graphics, geometric figures, and high-energy loops.
- Layer 3 (Top): Transparent alpha overlays, DJ logos, typography, and flash stobes.
